Locations & Dates:
Route
This is going to be one of the routes less travelled. Although Cuba is becoming more popular among cruisers, it is still not in the radar of many. We will start in Puerto Ricos capital San Juan and take som time to explore the beautiful countr before we head east towards the Dominican Republic and onwards to the Turks & Caicos Islands and the famous Bahamas, a place that has been on our bucket ist for many years. We wll spend some time there, and finally head to Cuba. Covering a total of somewhere around 1000nm, even sailing through a couple of nights and getting some real offshore experience.
Activities
Well, this is going to be an incredibly adventurous and diverse trip. From the flair of Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic’s dramatic coastline, we’ll experience vibrant local culture, waterfalls in the rainforest, and maybe even a little kiteboarding in Cabarete. The Turks & Caicos and Bahamas invite us with crystal-clear waters, endless sandy beaches, and world-class snorkeling and diving. In the Bahamas, we’ll have time to wander through small island settlements, swim with reef sharks or pigs, and enjoy long days anchored in turquoise lagoons. Finally, in Cuba, we’ll discover colorful towns, lively music, and a completely different vibe from the rest of the Caribbean. Along the way, we’ll gain real offshore sailing experience, enjoy fresh seafood, and spend plenty of time swimming, exploring, and soaking up island life.
Travel to and from the Boat
You can fly to Puerto Rico with some major airlines, expecially from the US. Cuba is accessible from a lot of places too. In both places we will be in ports that are easily accessible from the airport.
