Route
This leg takes us from the dry, wind-swept ABC Islands into one of the most unique cruising grounds in the Caribbean: the San Blas Archipelago of Panama. After departing Aruba, Bonaire, or Curaçao, we will prepare for a proper offshore passage along the Venezuelan coast. This stretch is known for steady trade winds and lively seas — a classic downwind sailing experience. Depending on conditions, we may make a stop along the way or sail more directly west. As we approach Panama, the scenery changes dramatically. The open sea gives way to hundreds of low-lying islands and palm-covered cays scattered across turquoise waters — the San Blas. Here, we slow down. Navigation becomes more visual, anchorages more remote, and life more simple. We’ll explore different islands within the archipelago, moving at a relaxed pace and taking in this truly special place.
Activities
Days are shaped by the surroundings:
There is no fixed program — you are free to do as much or as little as you like. Some days are active and social, others quiet and slow. We’ll also have a few offshore sailing days at the beginning of the trip, giving you the chance to experience watch systems, night sailing, and life underway.
Travel to and from the Boat
The ABC Islands are well connected internationally, especially via Curaçao and Aruba. At the end of the trip, access from the San Blas can be a bit more adventurous. Typically, you’ll travel by boat to the mainland and then continue by 4x4 transfer to Panama City, where you’ll find a major international airport. Flexible travel planning is strongly recommended, as exact arrival timing in San Blas depends on weather and conditions.
Requirements
No prior sailing experience is required. However, you should be comfortable with a few longer sailing passages at the beginning of the trip and be ready for a more remote environment towards the end — limited infrastructure, simple living, and a strong connection to nature. Interest in water activities is a big plus, but no experience is needed. You must be able to enter the relevant countries (ABC Islands and Panama). A relaxed and adaptable mindset is essential — this trip is less about ticking boxes and more about immersing yourself in one of the most beautiful and untouched sailing areas in the Caribbean.
